Getting Started

Sanguine Ashfall is an adult dark urban fantasy following the rise and fall of our protagonist—and not in that order—as her world is turned completely upside down. She must balance her work as a sorcerer broker, hunting Accursed beings while gathering intel, with uncovering who, or what, is responsible for what she’s becoming. Oh, and did I mention there are certain men making everything infinitely more difficult? Especially one. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’ll make this first post short, sweet, and hopefully to the point. This blog is where I’ll document the highs, lows, victories, setbacks, and weird inspirations behind writing Sanguine Ashfall. Whether you’re another writer, a future reader, or just curious, welcome. You could also just be here to relish in someone else’s joys in the craft or to sadistically watch me crumble. To each their own, and for the latter, love ya too ╭∩╮.

Challenges

What road blocks have I come across. That could range from the very start, any big moments since starting, or current. Maybe a challenge was to get out of bed, because let’s be real, that is a legit problem for most of us that DOES hinder not just creativity, but any day to day chores. Now sometimes, it can fuel creativity, but let’s just classify this challenge as a double-edged sword for now.

Successes

Did I enter a contest and win? Did I get a great commentary from an alpha/ beta reader or editor? Did a comment make my day? From the smallest moments to grandiose ones, if they affect the mentality regarding the book, it fits here. It makes me feel good and I wanna share it, and maybe it will help you look at things differently. Also note that this is a dark, urban adult series.

Inspiration

Self explanatory? I did not just wake up one day and say I want to write a story. As I continue to write and come up with ideas, more inspiration lights up this noggin. Maybe I’ll describe a dream some posts. Maybe I’ll hype an anime or show. Maybe I saw a caterpillar nibbling on a leaf. Who the fuck knows. I’d say fuck around and find out, but let’s be clear that’s not in the sexual context.

The Process

How did I prepare before the first word? What did I do? When I was in a rut, how did I handle it? How did I create the characters? What gave me the idea for the plot? So on and so forth, you should have the point down by now.

Concepts

Every main supporting character. All major locations. The world, the solar system, the time schedule and technical mechanics. Nothing existed for only a few seconds before making it to the page. This is honestly my favorite part. Every design is mine, and that’s no small feat for any artist (artist – anyone in the arts).

I have another page on the site to ask my characters questions, but this page is where you will directly ask me, the author, questions. I’d say there’s nothing limiting your questions, but I’m aware of the trolls out there. Let’s just say this is R rated, and adult themes exits in the book, which means they will likely exist here too, but be mindful. Keep questions like those to the book. Feel free to still talk amongst one another respectfully. My last note: Please don’t expect anything super motivational here and do expect sass.
